Title: Brink
Pairing: Lee/Kara
Spoilers: None whatsoever (other than they exist! and there's a war on!)
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: Not mine. *sniffle*
A/N: Totally inspired by the Conjure One song "Sleep." Somehow, at 1 AM, my brain turned it into this.
“I need you.” The bruising strength in Lee’s grip on her arms gave lie to the softness of his tone.
Kara could have been cruel. A dozen things to say sprang to mind, all of which would have wounded him as surely as if she had stuck a knife in his gut. But she couldn’t do that. Not to him. Not when he looked at her with those eyes.
They were the eyes of a man on the brink. Teetering on the edge of exhaustion and emotional overload, one crisis away from a breakdown.
She wasn’t sure what his limits were. But she knew he had them. Try as he might be the perfect soldier, he was still very human.
Everyone on the ship had come close to the breaking point at some time since the fight began. Everyone. Most made it through, either by sheer force of will or with help from friends and shipmates. Some hadn’t. They shattered, often taking down those around them on the way out.
She had resolved that that would not happen to her.
She stepped forward, bringing her mouth up to his, and resolved that it wouldn’t happen to him, either.
