"Major!"

Sheppard started violently. "McKay! Don’t do that!"

The scientist threw up his hands. "Jeez! What’s with you today? You’re beyond jumpy."

Sheppard scowled into his dinner plate. "I don’t know. I’m just feeling… out of sorts, I guess."

"Out of sorts?" McKay sat down and dug into his own plate of food. He skewered Sheppard with a knowing look and said (mouth full), "Because Elizabeth’s not here?"

The major shot his teammate a dirty look. "I’m sure that’s not it." He poked at the carrots on his plate for a moment. "Though now that you mention it, the city does seem… different… without her here."

McKay shrugged. "Maybe. I hadn’t really noticed. Then again, I don’t spend half my time following her around, making moon eyes at her."

Sheppard’s fork clattered to the floor. "I do not!" He was half out of his seat, leaning over the table as though he would leap across and strangle McKay for the suggestion.

"Sir? Everything alright?"

Of course Ford would show up now, Sheppard thought. He growled and sat back down. "Everything’s fine, Lieutenant."

The younger man shot a "yeah, right" look at McKay. "What’s with him?" he asked the scientist.

McKay grinned. "He’s feeling… discombobulated… because Elizabeth’s not here."

Ford snickered, taking the seat next to McKay’s. "Don’t worry, sir, she’s supposed to be back in a couple days. Maybe with a tan, even. I hear the weather’s great on the mainland right now."

Sheppard’s eyes glazed briefly as he considered Weir, sunbathing. The other men collapsed in gales of laughter. He groaned, burying his face in his hands. "I hate you both."
