Ford’s search took him to the top of one of the tallest spires in Atlantis, where he found her standing outside, looking up into the sky. He stopped at the doorway, struck by the sight. He had always thought of her as a hawk that had been hooded and caged. Restrained. Now she stood on a sun drenched balcony, poised as if on the verge of flight. Her eyes were closed; her expression was one of extreme contentment, careless and free. He wondered if her spirit soared the sky, leaving behind for the moment the bindings of the mortal world.
