She gave him an odd look. “Free?” She turned her face back into the sunlight. “My people,” she said after a long moment, “have never known true freedom. The Wraith hold the power of life and death over us, and so we are not free. “And yet,” she said with a small smile, “we live, and we love, and we create and grow, in defiance and because it is our right. And we find freedom in the thousand small victories we claim for ourselves each day.”
