Rengali Maiden
2003, Pencil
Pretty much the only nice thing to come out of my entire Psycology of Gender
class. I was doing a research project on body modification, and got the outlines
of a culture instead.
Rengali maidens are women who undergo body modification
in order to gain the rights and privilages that their society gives to men.
The most extreme starts at a very young age when they begin wearing a metal
"spine" that is corseted to their backs. This forces a vertical
posture while sliming the waist and emphasizing the hips.
