This Day In History - 7/21/2007 @ 10:02 - inpheaux
Eight years ago today, I mailed a money order in the amount of $35 to Network Solutions to register a little domain named "skizzers dot org". Unfortunately, the date we actually got the site up and running and started dumping things on the group-edited front page has been lost to the ages, as we didn't bother datestamping things back in the dark ages. So the domain's registration date will have to do.
So happy birthday, skizzers.org!
As a birthday present, Webmail will be coming back Real Soon Now.
The Move, version 2 - 6/19/2007 @ 00:11 - inpheaux
Welcome to Polytope.
This is our new server, colocated with LayeredTech down in Texas, rather than 1&1 in New York. We had simply outgrown our old server when it comes to system resources, and the only viable solution was to get a new server. So we did.
Dustoff and I have been working on this beast for months, and it's finally ready to go. There's only a few changes you really need to know about: for mail, your logins are no longer your full e-mail address, now they're just the bit before the domain. So a login of inpheaux@skizzers.org is now just inpheaux. Secondly, the mail server is no longer www.skizzers.org, now it's mail.skizzers.org.
As for stuff you probably don't care about: we're now rocking Apache 2.2, PHP 5, MySQL 5, Exim (with modern versions of Spam Assassin and ClamAV), a 64 bit processor, a bunch of ram, and an even larger connection to the internet than before. Oh and everything actually works now.
Except Webmail. Webmail will be down for a few more days while I research alternatives to IMP.

Downtime & Moving - 6/15/2007 @ 21:00 - inpheaux
Hey, 1&1 is moving around where our current server is, so we're going to have some downtime for a few hours tonight. We'll be back soon. And we're still hard at work getting the new server up, which is actually making progress for a change. More details on that as we get closer.

MySQL - 2/6/2007 @ 13:59 - inpheaux
No, I have no idea what is going on with MySQL. Yes, I know it sucks. Yes, we're working on it. Yes we'd rather be on The New Server by now.

I won't bore you all with the details, but we just wrapped up another 24 hours of downtime. We should be all better now, but we're still at THREAT CONDITION: MOVING PICTURES.
Oh, and for our (temporary) visitors from silver-gryphon.net and assorted network sites: Hi, welcome to skizzers dot org, we're your real hosts, and k'vn screwed up recently. Having all his domains pulled is his punishment. Once I have a chance to talk to him, you'll be returned to your regularly scheduled websites, already in progress.

downtime - 8/3/2006 @ 17:56 - inpheaux
hey guys, something blew up at 1&1. just like our last bit of downtime that happened right before i was scheduled to leave for the last e3 ever, this one happened right before i was scheduled for some oral surgery.
luckily, everything seems to be back up now. except me, as it's now time for my scheduled downtime.

breaking news: phpbb sucks.
but you already knew that, right?
right?
well, i finally got off my ass and learned the ins and outs of punbb, learned how to theme it, learned how to mod it, and started converting forums. ye oulde skizzers forums got to come first, and they're up now.
they work exactly like they should, and largely like they did before, except now i don't get an e-mail 2-3 times daily from some spambot attempting to register.
up next: directional pad.

mail returns - 7/13/2006 @ 9:32 - inpheaux
mail has returned to its former glory. normal mail, webmail, spamassassin, all back. once we determine it's all really really functioning again, we'll be ratcheting up the rules, so that mail that scores a 10 or 15 or more will be deleted outright.
sadly, no clamav. clamav will have to wait until a complete overhaul of the mail system, similar to the one that was attempted that resulted in the past two weeks of mail shenanigans. but that'll have to be postponed a bit because more important things need to be addressed in the immediate future.
if you see a problem with anything, like a false-positive that scored over 10 points, or whatever, e-mail me or find me on some form of instant messenger.

but you knew that already!
dustoff was working on upgrading and fixing it and . . uh . . didn't finish. and then disappeared for a day.
it'll be fixed tonight. seriously. it'll also be shiny and new! server-level virus filtering will be back on! and spamassassin won't be two years old! and we'll be nuking super-mega-spam at the server level! but this, of course, will be Later.
more details as they happen.
